Software and Mobile Apps For Renewable Energy

SOFWA
Visit: https://github.com/NREL/SOWFA
Full version: Free
Simulator for Wind Farm Applications (SOWFA) by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is an open source software package and framework that employs computational fluid dynamics and enables users to analyse the effects of turbulence, atmospheric patterns, and varied terrain on the performance of wind turbines and power plants. It also features a super controller for simulating multi-turbine and coordinated control of wind plants. This helps researchers and designers to minimise interference and other dynamics that may decrease plant performance.

AHA Solar
Updated: August 2020
OS: Android and iOS
Download: Full version (free)
AHA Solar is a Solar PV (SPV) app. It is an extension of the online platform with the same name that helps users in the management of technical and sales requirements on the go, thereby boosting work productivity for discoms, PV installers as well as state nodal agencies. A map-based user interface is available for calculating the size of the SPV system and energy output before designing. Other features include financial analysis tools, lead management with cloud, generation of the techno-commercial report, and the like.

Surya Mitra
Updated: December 2019
OS: Android and iOS
Download: Full version (free)
Surya Mitra app by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) aims to provide quality services such as the installation of small SPV power plants or services and repairs of existing ones at reasonable prices. Whenever individuals need any service, they can use this GPS-based app to send a message to the nearest Suryamitra. A trained solar person then reaches the user’s site to solve the problem immediately. As part of the ‘Make in India’ programme, this also increases youth employment and improves the businesses of solar entrepreneurs.

Biogas
Updated: February 2019
OS: Android
Download: Full version (free)
Biogas app by Indian Biogas Association (IBA) aims to make any biogas related information available to its users. Features include biogas calculator, resources mapping option, real-time assistance, among others. For calculating all the basic data, users just need to select a substrate from the feedstock choices in the app. Mapping allows users to view resources and waste processing plants in their vicinity and add new ones. Farmers’ Corner is designed to improve awareness about the advantages of biogas and bio-slurry among farmers. A section that covers policy initiatives of the central government is also present.
